My visa has been issued by, for example, the German Consulate. Could I use this visa to make a trip to other Schengen States?

If you are the holder of a Uniform Schengen Visa from Germany, you can enter the Schengen area in France too. If you have a Limited Territorial visa for Germany, this doesn’t permit you to access the other Schengen countries.
